Children's Book Illustrator's Exhibit

The Society of Illustrator's exhibit of Children's Book Illustrators in New York City





Gelinas school librarian, Mrs. Hatcher recently went on a field trip to the Society of Illustrator's museum in New York City. The field trip was sponsored by the Suffolk School Library Media Association.
On display were actual copies of the books that were represented in the illustrations.




On exhibit were the works of various children's book illustrators such as this illustration by Eric Carle.

John Grisham's new book for kids

Best selling author, John Grisham has written a new book for kids called "Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer". It is a story in which thirteen-year-old Theodore finds himself involved in a murder trial because of what he knows about a cold-blooded killer.

In an interview for NPR, Grisham talks about what it is like to write for a younger audience. Excerpts from the interview can be found at

Catch the Wave! Summer Reading Club


Registration for the Summer Reading Club at Emma S. Clark started on Saturday, June 5th. However, there is still time to register and get in on the fun.

This year's theme is "Catch the Wave!" The Young Adult department will be sponsoring a variety of activities for students entering grades 7 through 12.

Literary world loses J.D. Salinger

J.D. Salinger, author of "The Catcher in the Rye"(1951) has passed away at the age of 91.
Some of his other works were:

  • Franny and Zooey (1961)
  • Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymore: An Introduction (1963)
