I would strongly like to reccomend Melody Carlsons first book in the realistic fiction true color series Dark Blue. I give this book four out of four stars because Carlson relates to the lives of everyday teenagers in such a creative and amazing way it will have thinking that a teen was telling her what to write. A little bit about the story. Its about a 16 year old girl named Kara Hendricks who has her life thrown off track when her best friend Jordan Ferguson becomes a cheerleader and drops her for a cooler group of friends. Kara then goes on struggling to find her true identity as she realizes that since kindergarten she had bee living in he so called friends shadow. She realize its time to discover the true Kara Hendricks. Kara meets a group called the art bunch and meets a nerdy boy named edgar peebles. Kara and edagr become very close and he helps her find her real identity and instead of Jordan find a new best friend not him but someone who will always be with her. Edgar helps Kara accept Jesus into her heart. Agan i strongly reccomend this book but only to teenage and young adults who are women. Trust me men will not be interesed!

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Rune Michaels’ intriguing novel, The Reminder, about a teen girl struggling to come to terms with her mother’s recent death. The novel is a unique blend of drama and suspense, with a bit of science fiction mixed in.
ReplyDeleteDaisy, known as Daze to her family and friends, feels lost without her mother. Her father’s not coping much better, and it bothers Daze that her little brother doesn’t remember their mother very well. She struggles with nightmares and getting on with her normal life in the face of such tragedy. Then, strange things start happening:
"The first time I heard my dead mother’s voice, there was a logical explanation.
It was the middle of the night, naturally – that’s when ghosts tend to visit. I woke up from a familiar nightmare, gulping down air, my face damp with sweat, my heart hammering, visions of blue and green slipping away as I grabbed darkness gratefully instead.
Then I heard it again, like I must have heard through my sleep.
Mom’s voice. Mom’s laughter, rippling under my bedroom door along with the sliver of light from the living room."
I don’t want to say too much more abut the plot because there are a few surprises in store for both Daze and the reader. The novel is well written and does a great job of exploring the nature of grief and loss, while keeping things interesting with some unique plot twists. This was the first book I’ve read by Rune Michaels and I highly highly highly recommend this!!
I liked the book Turn Coat by Jim Butcher which was the 11th novel in the Dresden Files series. It was extremely exciting and suspenseful at times, and I would say it is the second best book in this series. The Dresden Files is a series with mixed genres: it is about a detective wizard and his adventures in modern times in the real world. It is unique in this way, that it is a mixture of fantasy, mystery and realistic fiction. I have never read any book like this before -- and I have read hundreds of books.
ReplyDeleteTherefore, I would recommend the whole series to anyone who likes mystery and fantasy.
The story has a very complex plot in which a powerful wizard shows up at Harry Dresden's (the main character) door. The main character is a private investigator. The wizard is wounded and has been falsely accused of treason by the most powerful group of wizards in the world. The story involves Harry trying to prove this wizard's innocence. In the process he gets himself into a major battle.
Have you every read an exciting action packed book? Have you ever read a book about mice and other animals? Well, if you haven't, then the book Redwall by Brian Jacques is a great choice for your next IRP or book that you want to read. This book is a mix of an action book and a novel about how animals run their own form of government. I would definitely recommend this book. It would be most enjoyed by readers who like action books.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this book very much because I liked the suspense and action between the animals. I also liked how Brian Jacques uses animals in all of the books he has ever written. Redwall is one of my favorite books that I have ever read.
This book is partly based off of events that would happen in our society. But mostly it is about a young mouse who dreams of being a warrior and has to fight evil rats who want to take over his abbey. Without the powerful sword and shield, will he be able to fight them off? Will the young mouse find the sword in time to conquer the evil rats? I guess that you will have to read this book to find out what happens.
I highly recomend EXTRAS by Scott Westerfeld. I gave it the full amount of 4 stars. It is about a 15 year old girl named Aya Fuse. At firt she feels like a total nobody, but after she meets the Sly Girls she sees the world differently. She kicks a story about the Sly Girls and the seceret chamber in the mountins that they found which they like to call a "city killer." When it goes on air she almost instantly becomes famous but is in danger. The creators of the city killer, the "inhumans", come after her. Tally Youngblood and her crew come to save Aya and her friends. Tally, the Cutters, Aya, and her friends end up on an exiting adventure to find out what the inhumans are up to and save the world.
ReplyDeleteI have just completed the book Restoring Harmony by Joelle Anthony, and I would highly recommend it. This book is really unique, taking place in the 2030's. The main character, Molly (18), goes on a journey to get her Grandfather. Little does she know that this journey is going to take months, not just a week. The Great Collapse of 2031 wiped out all food and oil from Canada and the US. Nobody works anymore, besides those in the Organization, a company that trades goods illegally with other countries.
ReplyDeleteMolly's mother is pregnant and is in desperate need of a doctor, which her Grandfather is. Molly's mom and Grandfather don't speak anymore, for the Granfather thought Molly's mother was a disapointment. Although, she really needs a doctor, and that's why Molly was sent off to get her Grandpa, for there are no doctors left in Canada. Molly meets a lot of dynamic characters in this story, including her grandmother who she thought was dead. Through the whole exciting journey, she's carrying her fiddle, Jewels, which helps her out a few times along the way. This book had a twist on every page. I enjoyed it very much, and would recommend it to anyone.
All Quiet on the Western Front is one of the best books I have ever read. The book is a historical fiction anti-war novel written about WW1 and tells about the horrors of war. The author of the book, Erich Remarque, uses sophisticated vocabulary to enhance the already stunning book and shows the depressing and horrific effect of the war through the characters' actions and thoughts. I gave this novel four out of four stars.
ReplyDeleteThe book is narrated by Paul Baumer, a German soldier and the main character. The book is his war story with his friends as they fight Allied forces on the Western Front. Throughout the book Baumer shows how the war ruins him and his friends (who he has very tight bonds with) and how war will never lead to anything good, and ultimately pain, suffering, and death.
*Note: This book is very depressing, especially at the end. Be careful if you choose the book because you need to understand the aspect of war and how it is such a horrible thing.*
I strongly recommend the book Model's Don't Eat Chocolate Cookies. It is a great book for girls any age. This book is combined with friendship, family, competition, mean girls, and so much more! Have you ever felt like you don't belong or don't fit in? Having to wonder and decide who to hang out with or what you will do? Well character, Celeste Harris 13 years old who isn't happy about her body type, faces with all those challenges. But one big challenge she is faced.. is when a mysterious person enters her into a Modeling challenge for over sized girls? UH OH!! Operation model: not for her. Meanwhile, everyone in her family is so excited for her, but Celeste is not! Also, loosing your best friend to your enemy isn't the most wonderful thing. Well, character Celeste faces with that obstacle too!I am not going to give away too much, but if you really want to know, Celeste is also faced with a huge embarrassment.. ON LIVE T.V!! If you want to find out more about Celeste, the modeling challenge, her school, or you just want to read the book because it has cookies on the front... i suggest reading this magnificent book! If they dont have the book at this library, they also have it at Emma S. Clark Library! Check it out! Watch Celeste go from an ordinary girl in California to a confident model???
ReplyDeleteFor all of the readers out there who love books full of suspense and mystery, I would highly recommend Agatha Christies Cat Among the Pidgeons. In this book, you must always pay strict attention if you want to solve the horrendous crimes commited before Detective Hercule Poirot does! The novels setting takes place in England, at a world-famous girls academy dubbed Meadowbanks. As term begins in England, a gruesome revolution tears apart a far Eastern country, killing Prince Ali Yusuf along the way. And now, rumors are spreading like wildfire about the prince leaving his pilot, Bob Rawlinson, a bag of jewels to smuggle out of the country. The only problem is Bob has died as well and there were not any jewels found around him. However, Bob had a sister and niece. A niece attending Meadowbanks. And others want those jewels so much, that now murder and fear are hovering over the once pristine school. A cat is waiting among a group of terrified pidgeons.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this story immensely, and would recommend it to anyone who has an interest for mystery. Agatha Christie is a legendary mystery writer and will never disappoint. Although this novel and most of her novels are rather lengthy, exploring some of the Christie stories would be well worth any time put into it. Happy reading!
The book, For One More Day, by Mitch Albom, was an inspiring and moving novel. It provoked the mysterious and eluding question of what happens after we pass away. It also gives a unique and comforting answer. This book takes you on an amazing journey with a troubled, middle-aged man. In this journey, a moving story is unraveled and answers to his past are discovered with the help of the only person who can guide him, his deceased mother.
ReplyDeleteThis book begins with a man, who is named Charley Benetto (but called Chick by everyone except his mother), telling us about his immediate past. He became an alcoholic after the death of his mother. He was kicked out of his wife’s and only daughter’s lives, and eventually decided upon suicide. Driving to his home town, where he plans to die, he collides with a truck because Chick is so drunk. Amazingly, he is alive and stands up. Chick begins to walk back to his home town, where he throws himself off of a water tower. Soon after, he awakens, and sees his dead mother. When he goes back to the house he grew up in, his mother calls to him. All of a sudden, she is as real as ever. But, she is dead. How could this be? Why is she here? All of these questions flash through his mind. And, in this novel, they are all answered, and an inside look into life after death is revealed.
What if Global Warming caused most of the world to be covered in deep, frigid water? Your home, the East Coast, is gone. Only a little land remains and it is packed with people.
ReplyDeleteThis scenario is exactly what happens in Kat Falls' science fiction novel, DARK LIFE. The protagonist, Ty, and his family have found a solution to this problem. They simply live underwater. Ty's family and several other pioneers have set up a small territory called the Benthic Territory. But all is not well in this territory. There is a gang of outlaws called the Seablite Gang that is raiding supplies coming to the territory. The government is failing to help the settlers, causing them to take matters into their own hands. On his journey to bring the outlaws to justice, Ty meets a girl named Gemma, who is searching for her long lost brother. Together, they team up to stop the outlaws and find Gemma's brother.
I would recommend this book to everyone! When I was reading it, I could not put this book down! The author did a great job by adding a lot of suspense and I look forward to reading any of her future books! I would give it a five out of five!
I greatly enjoyed the book BATTLE HEROES: VOICES FROM AFGHANISTAN. In the book, comprised of ten individual short stories about battle heroes and there squads, you learn the stories of a few of the heroes that fight every day for the freedom of America and the rest of the world.
ReplyDeleteI would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys war stories or stories about heroes and some of their life changing experiences. Although I would warn that the last chapter is a little graphic and left me feeling quesy for a little while, it is about a battle aid surgical team who attemps to perform a life saving surgery on a complete stanger. Although that is not the extent of drama in that chapter I do not want o give anything away.
Cory Doctorow's science-fiction novel, Little Brother, was riveting! The author continued to throw twists and turns, surprising me with every chapter. As well as being extremely visionary, I found Little Brother's characters immensely humorous. Even at serious moments, there was a dash of humor, making you to laugh ever so slightly. Doctorow's writing causes you to develop certain emotions at just the right times. They can range from one extreme to the other, having you outraged or sorrowful. I believe the writing technique used was amazing.

Marcus believes they have gone way too far, and wishes for it all to stop. Will Marcus complete his mission, having his technological abilities to help? You tell me!
I really enjoyed reading The Battle of the Labyrinth by Rick Riordan. It is about a half-blood named Percy Jackson who has a mortal mom and a god for a father. He goes into the Labyrinth to seek out Daedalus so that the titans do not get Ariadne's string and invade Camp Half Blood, but they were too late and they go back to Camp Half Blood to get ready for the invasion. After the titan army retreats back into the Labyrinth Daedalus kills himself to destroy the Labyrinth so that the titan army cannot use it to attack Camp Half Blood.
ReplyDeleteAre you looking for a book with a little bite? Well then I know the perfect book for you. Twelfth Grade Kills by Heather Brewer is the fifth and final installment in the fantasy series, The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod. I would rate this book with 4 out of 4 stars because of the author's unique and creative writing style that intensely draws the reader into the world she has created.
ReplyDeleteIn this story, an 18-year-old half-vampire named Vladimir Tod goes on the rollercoaster journey of his life when his father returns after 8 years of being thought to be dead. He explains to Vlad that he had to leave and hide for that time because he was in deep trouble with Elysia, (the vampire world) for breaking Elysian Code. Especially because he engaged in a romantic relationship with a mortal named Mellina, who is Vlad's biological mother. She had been killed in a house fire when Vlad was 10.
Vlad also has other issues in his complicated vampire life, such as his multiple death sentences with Elysia and the Slayer Society, and when he learned earlier on that he was the subject of the prophecy of the Pravus. (This is a prophecy that speaks of a vampire who would not be made normally -by being bitten by another vampire- but actually be mortally-born. It is said that the Pravus will rule over Vampirekind and enslave the human race.)
Vlad has to make many crucially important decisions that drastically alter his life and destiny, as well as many other's.
There are many twists and turns in this suspensful novel, that will have you on the edge of your seat until the very end. Expect to find many dark secrets to be revealed, close friends turn to enemies, and one of the "good guys" you could easily trust and be rooting for turn out to be your worst enemy.
The year is 2001. The place is New York City. Everyone is still reeling from the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center, but that’s not the only tragedy the Abranel family is dealing with. On the contrary, their tragedy hits even closer to home. Rebecca Abranel has committed suicide.
ReplyDeleteThis realistic fiction will introduce you to a girl named Leila Abranel. She is the younger half sister of the deceased. It is a narration of a 16 year old’s journey through one of life’s hardest events- death. Stay With Me, by Garret Freymann- Weyr is a story of love, forgiveness and maturity.
This book will bring a tear to your eye while giving your hand a cramp from all the page turning. This lengthy novel is 306 pages, yet the time flies by and before you know it your on the last page of the book. I give this book a three and a half out of five rating, because although the plot is not smooth, it will keep you reading on. In this book, Rebecca’s suicide leaves her whole family shocked and depressed. Healing and learning to cope come slowly for all involved. However, Leila doesn’t feel the same way. Although she is sad, what she wants more than anything else are answers to why her sister did this to herself. Leila finds clues left behind and meets many people while trying to decipher this mystery. This powerful and gripping journey to spiritual healing and coping allows Leila to unravel the sad mystery and helps her to understand the truth. However, I can’t say anything else, you will just have to read the book yourself! Be prepared for an emotional roller coaster filled with twists and turns that will enable you to take this journey too. See if you can answer Leila’s big question- Why?
The Batboy, by Mike Lupica, is an enjoyable read especially for sports fans. This realistic fiction book is about a boy, Brian, who becomes the batboy for the Detroit Tigers. Life for Brian flies out of the ball park when his favorite baseball player, Hank Bishop, joins the Tigers. However, Brian finds out that Bishop is not who Brian thought he really was. Then on Brian’s travel baseball team he falls into a slump. What happens with Brian’s travel team? How does the uncomfortable atmosphere between Hank Bishop and Brian Dudley change? I encourage those who love baseball to read this book. The Batboy, would also appeal to non-avid sports fan teenagers because it contains a life message: Always believe in yourself despite obstacles. I rate this book an eight on a one to ten scale. Mike Lupica’s sensory language used throughout the book makes the reader feel as if he/she is there.
ReplyDeleteWant a book with alot of plot twists and opinion changes? Then you should read the book Flipped. Flipped is a realistic fiction novel about a boy named Bryce and a girl named Juli Who have lived across the street from each other since second grade. They each had a different opinion of each other. Juli couldnt stop thinking about Bryce while Bryce wanted to avoid her as much as he could. in eighth grade, their opinions are completely flipped. Juli now wants to avoid Bryce and Bryce wants to see Juli more than ever. can there be love in eighth grade?
ReplyDeleteThe confusing plot changes in this book make this book a mystery at every turn which makes this book a keeper. this book deserves four and a half stars. although the plot was amazing, it got very confusing at certain parts. The two opinions being shown makes it more interesting and makes you want to continue to see the other persons side of the story.Id recommend this book to anyone who wants to hear a good story thats heartbraking and heart warming at the same time.
Ashley, I also read Code Orange, by Caroline B. Cooney. I thought that this intriguing book was fantastic. I really liked that throughout the book facts about smallpox were thrown in amongst the plot. I agree with Ashley that this mystery filled book appeals to those who enjoy mysteries and adventures. The imagery throughout the book makes the reader feel as if he was there when Mitty Blake was kidnapped. I definitely agree with Ashley that this action packed book brings you on a journey with Mitty Blake as he catches Smallpox, gets kidnapped and then has to make some life saving decisions.
ReplyDeleteEric W, I have not read Redwall, by Brian Jacques yet. However, this book sounds really interesting. I think it is unique how the animals resemble real people. I am definitely going to read this book!!
ReplyDeleteThe book I read was Specials, by Scott Westerfeld. It is about a girl named Tally Youngblood who was just operated on to become a "Special", a person who has superhuman senses and keeps the normal people under control. The city gives normal people, "Uglies" operations at the age of sixteen. They are turned into "Pretties", beautiful and clueless "bubbeheads". They modify these pretties' brains so that all they care about is parties and how they look. But soon people who live in the wild, the "Smokies" have been handing out pills that make you think clearly, eliminiate the cluelessness.
ReplyDeleteTally and her other special friends, the "Cutters" are trying to catch the Smokies, and they break some rules in trying to acheive this. Tally must ask an old friend, Zane for help. She wants him to become a Special, but he needs to do something very noticable to become one. So Tally and Shay rob the Armory, a huge building where they keep all of the city's weapons. Something goes wrong, and the whole building falls apart. This causes lots problems, many of them too horrible for Tally to comprehend.
I thought this book deserved five out of five stars. It was action-packed and had many plot twists, making it very suspenseful. I would recommen it to people who enjoy science fiction or fantasy genres. I thought this book was very exciting and an incredibly thrilling read.

I would highly reccomend the book "The Hobbit" by J.R.R Tolkein. This is a fantasy book with alot of action, mystery, and suspense. The main character is a Hobbit (a samll person that is very hairy, does their own thing, and is very sneaky) named Bilbo Baggins who is thrust into a journey with a group of dwarves and a wizard named Gandalf. This journey is to get back the treasure of one of the dwarves ancestors who lost his treasure to a dragon named Smaug. This adventure has alot of suspense and action and it also has some comedy in it.
ReplyDeleteThis book is full of action and suspense. This book is a little bit on the longer side but if you like fantasy action stories it is a very good read. I give this book a 7.5 out of 10 overall.
Have you ever felt like you don't belong? That’s how the main character feels in Whip It by Shauna Cross. This book is about Bliss Cavendar, a 16 year old girl who doesn't belong in her small town of Bodeen, Texas. Bliss can't even relate to her family, her beauty pageant-loving mom Brooke, her four year old pageant-winning sister Shania, and her football- obsessed dad Earl. She survives living in Bodeen only because of her best friend, Pash Amini. Then one day when she’s in Austin, Bliss sees a sign for Roller Derby. She and Pash go to the game and love it. So when Bliss hears about try outs, she decides to go despite the fact that you have to be 18. When she tries out, she ends up making the team. She tells her parents that she is taking an SAT prep course because she knows they will never let her be on the team. This book is all about Bliss and how being on the Derby team changes her. This book is filled with drama and plot twists. Want to know what happens? Read the book to find out!
ReplyDeleteHave you ever wondered what our future will be like? If this question intrigues you, then I suggest you read the science fiction novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Not only is this book for sci-fi enthusiasts, but also for people looking for a novel that cannot be put down.
ReplyDeleteThe novel is about a dystopian future in which books are banned. The plot revolves around Montag, a fireman who in this society burn books. After taking a book from a home, Montag begins to realize that his society is completely ignorant. But how long can he keep reading before he is discovered by other firemen? Only you can find this out by picking this up at the library.
I would give this book 3 and a half out of 4 stars. Not only is the book an enticing read, but also portrays our society in a downward spiral of ignorance and overuse of technology. My only gripe with this novel is that Ray Bradbury can be diffuse at times and with no chapters in the book it is sometimes easy to lose your spot. However, Fahrenheit 451 is still a great book worth checking out.
I highly recommend the book, The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan to anyone who enjoys adventure, fantasy, comedy, cliff-hangers, and really feeling an emotional attachment to the characters. It's about siblings Sadie and Carter Kane having to go on a quest to find evil god, Set and rescue their father who damaged the Rosetta Stone while trying to bring his wife back from the dead. The book is told as a recording of Carter and Sadie's adventure to the first nome, the land of the dead, and, finally, the site of Set's Red Pyramid. Along they way, they learn more and more of their family's history and become aware of just how powerful they really are. They were not alone in doing this; Carter and Sadie were accompanied by their friend Bast, the cat goddess, Zia, who was a very powerful magician of the house of life, and the subtle hints of guidance by other gods such as Horus, Isis, Nut, Geb, Anubis and the wise leader Thoth. In the end, Carter and Sadie take part in the battle of the millennia and make the hardest decisions of their lives. This novel was not only entertaining, but informative as well. There were many references to Egyptian mythology. I would definitely give this novel four out of four stars. It is my new personal favorite and I can't wait for the sequal!
ReplyDelete“That was Then, This is Now” is an enticing realistic fiction novel by S.E Hinton. It portrays the life of two teenage boys. The boys are like brothers who have a unique and secure bond. Their bond seems eternic at the beginning of the novel. The boys live in a poor undevleloped area in Oklahoma. Here they encounter poverty and drugs.
ReplyDeleteAs the two friends mature they begin to grow more distant. Mark becomes more exclusive and obsessed with making money to support their family. Bryon becomes more involved with girls and learns to find his own voice. When Bryon’s girlfriend’s brother is caought using drugs after running away from home everone is shaken up. Then, Bryon discovers a shocking and deplorable secret about Mark. One that puts their brotherly bond to the test. Bryon makes a decision that will change his life for eternity.
This book was captivating and enticing. It will capture your heart and soul. S.E Hinton is an amazing author that can relate to all. I recommend this book for anyone who wants to read about friendship, love, action and suspense.
I enjoyed reading the novel, The Big Field, by Mike Lupica. This is an action-packed story about a 14-year old boy named Keith Hutchinson aka Hutch. He plays baseball on the Boynton Beach Post 226 Cardinals with his best friend Cody Hester. Their team is trying to make it into the state finals. However, the only thing standing in the way of this feat is the relationship between the Cardinals star player Darryl Williams and the team captain Hutch. Darryl realizes Hutch is a star player as well and he feels threatened by Hutch's publicity. When Darryl finds out that there is friction between Hutch and his father, who had his heart broken by baseball he tries to annoy Hutch until they fight. The result of the fight was that Hutch is suspended for one game. Will Hutch and Darryl accept each other on the team, so that they can make it to the State Finals? The only way to find out is to read this suspenseful, and dramatic novel.
ReplyDeleteI read the book Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella and i thought it was a terrific novel. i adored the sarcasm the author included in this novel and all the anxiety she created in the readers mind.
ReplyDeleteThis novel was about a 28 year old woman that woke up in a London, France hospital from a car accident. She had new clothes, hair, teeth and personallity. She had gotten married and her husband was perfect-so she thinks. She leaves the hospital and discovers her no-carb life and enormous mansion. At a dinner party hosted by her husband, she meets a suspicious man named Jon. He met Lexi in the kitchen and tryed telling her about a secret affair they had going on behind her husband, Eric, back. She did not want to believe Jon because she was never the unfaithful type.
Lexi learns that her life isnt all that glamorous and that her new life as being boss isnt all its cracked up to be. Lexi leaves Eric after getting fired by being sabotashed by her subsitut while she was in the hospital. She starts to rememebr certain events and memories she had with Jon while she was shopping. She was told by the employee that she was in the same store about a year back to find a shirt for a beloved man. Lexi was talking about Jon. Lexi races to Jon's house and says sorry for not believing him and they love each other forever.
I recomend this book as an extremely suspensful read and an eye-opener. Remember me? is now my new favorite book!
There is a place seemingly identical to Earth yet completely different at the same time. It is a place where dogs can talk and humans listen. It is where the dead can finish their lives and become younger instead of older. This place is Elsewhere and it is the setting of the novel Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin. In this story fifteen year old Liz is killed when hit by a car. After she dies, she is sent to a place called Elsewhere where she learns she will age backwards until she becomes an infant again and travels back to Earth. Throughout the story, Liz meets many new people including her grandmother Betty, Thandi Washington, Aldous Ghent, Curtis Jest, and Owen Welles. All of these characters help Liz to accept her death and enjoy her time in Elsewhere. This novel has a very dynamic plot that always keeps you interested. It has many different lessons to be learned and causes you to look at life and death with a different view than you had before. I gave this novel four stars because of the unique story line and exciting events throughout the book. I found it very interesting how people aged backward in the story because it added an imaginary aspect to the story that made it even more captivating. I would recommend this novel to anyone who would enjoy an extraordinary story about life, death, and making the best of both.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever wondered about Germany during WWII? Do you enjoy vividly detailed stories that are told in a unique perspective? If you do, then go purchase or check out a copy of The Book Thief by the award-winning Australian author Markus Zusak. The Book Thief is an exceptionally well written book which is told in the point of view of Death. Unlike many people’s ideas about this immortal being, in the novel Death displays sympathy and pity toward humans and is even disgusted by the ruthless killings that occur between the human race. Another interesting aspect of the novel is that Death foreshadows entire chapters in advance, which he does after saying that "Mystery bores me. It chores me. I know what happens and so do you. It's the machinations that wheel us there that aggravate, perplex, interest, and astound me." However, the foreshadowing of important events does very little to spoil the novel because the story is told in a way that in just a few pages an exciting event occurs, which makes it difficult to tell what will happen next in the story.
ReplyDeleteThe story that Death tells is mainly about a young girl called Liesel Meminger, who loses almost everything including her family and home. Liesel faces several hardships which are descriptively described by the author’s poetic writing style. Liesel also realizes that she hates and loves words because they caused her so much pain, but she loves to read and write books. For example, the author wrote “Cuts had opened up and a series of wounds were rising to the surface of her skin. All from words. From Liesel's words." This quote not only shows Liesel’s pain, but also the author’s descriptive and poetic writing style. Overall, I would strongly recommend that you read this novel due to its unique use of poetic devices, intricately structured writing style, and its strong and descriptive plot, which all contribute to making this novel not just a good book, but a truly phenomenal work of literature.
Girls, if your looking for a funny, werid, eventful book, then I would read "Models Don't Eat Chocolate Cookies" by Erin Dionne. The book tells about a normal girl in 8th grade who is secretly addmitted into a modeling competition for overweight girls by her aunt. It makes really great connections to life as we know it.
ReplyDeleteCeleste Harris is a slightly overweight teen who goes through life waiting for each day to be over. She doesn't care about her apperance or about anything else really. But, once she goes to the first round of the competition, everything changes.
She tries to loose weight so she wont have to go through with the contest because she secretly hates it and thinks it's embarassing. Throughout the book Celeste grows so much confidence and stands up for herslef. Her best friend ditches her for the most popular girl in the school, she pukes on her gym teacher in gym class, her dress rips in front of everyone, but in the end she puts everything behind her and becomes a better person. This book has a great lesson, and really shows a young girl maturing and making the right decisions.
If you want a creative, sad, hopeful, and well-written book, you should read Elsewhere, by Gabrielle Zevin. I absolutely loved it. Elsewhere is definitely one of the best fantasy books I've ever read.
ReplyDeleteIn the story, a 15-year-old girl named Liz Hall tragically dies in a hit and run car accident. After her death, Liz finds herself on a boat, and supposes that she is in a dream. But when she cannot wake herself up, she finally realizes that it’s not a dream. The boat arrived in a place called elsewhere. In elsewhere everyone ages backwards until they become a baby, and when they are seven years old they are sent back to Earth to be born again. At first Liz is very unhappy in elsewhere, and the only place she wants to be is on Earth. She watches her friends and family back there, and becomes obsessed. But when Liz meets many new people, including her grandmother, Betty, and her friends Thandi, Curtis, Owen, Sadie, Emily, Aldous Ghent and Jen she begins to enjoy her time in elsewhere, and stop thinking about her old life on Earth. Liz falls in love, gets a job, and learns to parallel park. In elsewhere Liz has to make many important choices, and sometimes makes wrong decisions. This book is truly amazing. I couldn't put it down. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in afterlife, or just to anyone who wants to read a great book!
Are you looking to read an exiting action packed novel. Then Helmet For my Pillow is a novel you will probably enjoy. the novel is written by a world war II veteran who fought in the Pacific campaign. The author Robert Leckie was part of the first marine division in H company. The novel is written in his point of veiw and fallows him from when he was in boot camp on paris island too when he was on the island of peleliu.
ReplyDeleteI greatly enjoyed reading about all of Leckie's good and bad experiences. Leckie uses sensory language to help describe his experiences in great detail helping you form mental images of what he saw. you read about men he meets during the war but there are some sad parts when someone he knew dies. All in all though i would recommend this book to anyone who likes history or action novels because it is a great novel.

ReplyDeleteI highly recommend Witch & Wizard by James Patterson, especially if you like action, adventure and stories about magic powers. If you like Harry Potter books, you will definitely enjoy reading Witch & Wizard. I enjoyed it because it is about two teenagers who have magical powers. I like adventure stories and this story is an adventure about two kids who are taken from their family by a new world ruler who wants to kill all kids who have powers. What made this story more suspenseful was that the kids didn't even know they have powers. Whit and Wisty would do crazy spells without even trying. Just like Harry Potter, Whit and Wisty had to learn to control their powers. The way the author describes what was happening it made me feel that I was really there with Whit and Wisty. There is some interesting symbolism which, as you read, you will be trying to figure out. For me,I predicted what each symbol meant. I like puzzles and to me it was fun to figure out the answer to the symbols. Witch and Wizard has so much happening in each chapter, even though the chapters were really short. There is magic, adventure, and suspense. Witch and Wizard kept my interest and I think it will keep your interest too.

ReplyDeleteAre you looking for a thrilling non-fiction book filled with twist turns and suprises if you said yes then the thief lord by cornelia funke is right for you. When Prosper and Bo's parents died, they were sent to live with their aunt and uncle. There was only one problem - they only wanted Bo, they didn't want Prosper. Well, Prosper did not want to be sent to boarding school and leave his brother with their evil aunt esther, so he and Bo ran away to Venice, Italy, the enchanting city his mother had told them so many tales of. Unfortunately, Venice was not quite what Prosper and Bo were expecting they were not prepared and had no real plans to how to survive. Then they were adopted by the Thief Lord... The Thief Lord was clever and persuasive, to be sure, but no one knew who he really was and all of the children were confused and intrigued by him. Prosper worried that Bo looked up to the Thief Lord too much and would turn to a life of crime, but where else could they go? Besides, Aunt Esther had now hired a private investigator to track them down in Venice and they relied on their friends to help them escape him. But when the Thief Lord accepts a job from a mysterious duke, Prosper finds himself in an adventure filled with suprises and discovers more about the Thief Lord than he truly wanted to know... The Thief Lord was a Fantasy tale for kids it was spectacular. The book has enough humor and fun for children to enjoy it. I look forward to seeing more from this author as I feel that she has a great deal of potential. My recommendation would be to check this book out from your local library and read it.
ReplyDeleteI have just recently read the book Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac by the author of Elsewhere, Gabrielle Zevin. I give this a thumbs up because although it has some parts that only a few can relate to it, but overall the book is very relatable. Here is the plot summary. Naomi Porter has always had holes in her personal history. She was abandoned at a Russian church as an infant, Naomi has had to piece together her origins from the few tidbits of information her adoptive parents know. But when, in the middle of her junior year of high school, she falls down the stairs, resulting a traumatic head injury and losing her entire memory of her life post-puberty, Naomi has to try to recover her identity, to rediscover who she was before the accident. This book had me turning the pages constantly, i definitely recommend it!
ReplyDeleteHave you ever read a book about a suspenseful chase in the 1300's? Well, if not, Crispin: the Cross of Lead is the perfect book for you. Living up to its Newbery Award reputation, this book brings you on a courageous adventure. This book will make you keep the pages turning with its rapid, roller coaster turns.
ReplyDeleteCrispin starts out as a poor, land owned boy, living only with his mother. When his mother dies and is blamed for a crime that he didn't commit, he's is forced to leave his home with only his lead cross with some writing on it. His former lord, Aycliffe, is after him and is trying to kill him, but for what reason is a mystery. On his travels, he meets a skilled juggler, Bear, who claims him as his new owner. Crispin follows Bear throughout the country learning many skill like sing, dancing, how to wield a dagger, etc. After a month of traveling, the two see Aycliffe with multiple solider, looking for someone. It appears the person they are looking for is Crispin! Why are they still after him? What does his cross say? These question when you read this amazing book.
I strongly recommend the book "Heart of the Hide" for all people who love baseball and sports. This book is about a boy, Nicky Palmieri, who has the dream of playing in the big leagues. Nicky has a birth defect called cleft palate and almost all of the kids make fun of him. Nicky loves to play baseball and plays with his friends every day after school. He encounters a lot of problems in the book. One day when his idol dies he puts his prized possession heart of the hide mitt into his casket and his friend and family start asking questions. which leds to a long line of lies and fibs which changes Nicky's live forever.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever wondered what it feels like to time travel, or be in another time-zone other than the 21st century? Well, in the science fiction novel Sent, by Margaret Peterson Haddix, you get all of that and more!
ReplyDeleteIn this book, the main character Jonah, his best friend Chip and a new friend Alex are all famous children from the past that mysteriously disappeared in history. People from the future kidnapped them just before they suddenly disappeared. Now, all of those kids are in the twenty first century living what they think is their normal lives, until they go to a counseling for "adoption" and are all smuggled into some time in the future. Now they are expected to back in time to find out who their real identity is, and fix the "broken time" by filling out their lives as it would have if they had not disappeared. This is a lot more difficult than it sounds, and Jonah, Chip, Alex and Jonah's spunky sister Katherine, find this out the hard way; as they grab Chip just as he is zapped into the past. Now Jonah, Chip, Katherine and Alex are all hurtling through time to some unknown destination. Where will they land? Who are they in history? Will they be able to return home safely? To answer all these questions you have to read the book!!
Sent is book number 2 in the series The Missing. I deeply enjoyed this book for many reasons. First of all it is a thrilling action packed book that takes many twists and turns. Another reason that I recommend this novel is that you can defiantly relate to the characters feelings and comments by hearing Jonah’s thoughts and the descriptive vocabulary the author uses. Also there are many different facts about history in the novel that make it easier to understand the plot.
Overall, Sent by Margaret Peterson Haddix is an amazing, well writen book, and i would recommend it to anyone that loves a good read.:)
I would not recommend the realistic fiction book "Borderline" by Allan Stratton. Although the idea of the book has potential, it is not delivered in a way that really would hold the reader's attention. If the plot had been more intricate, and contained at least a bit more action, this book might have been more enjoyable to read.
ReplyDeleteThe protagonist, a muslim-american boy, Sami, lives in upstate New York. His father is accused of aiding terrorists. Sami has to clear his father's name. Does this storyline sound familiar?
Although I would not suggest that somebody read this book, it did have high points. I laughed maybe once or twice, so this novel was not a total waste of paper. I feel that I was at least somewhat entertained by reading this book.
I would recommend Wintergirls, by Laurie Halse Anderson to anyone. It is about a girl who has an eating disorder. Her best friend has recently died because of bulimia. The girl, Lia, is haunted by her best friend's death and starts to go back to her anorexic ways. When she starts to see her friend's ghost, she realizes she has to do something, and that could be anything.
ReplyDeleteWow Ashley! your book does sound thrilling, action packed, and an edge of your seat read!! i think I'm going to the library and check it out! Code Orange is definitely on my reading list!
ReplyDeleteThe novel The Ravens Gate by Anthony Horowitz was a outstanding book. It was filled with intensity and mystery and I couldn't put the book down once I finished a chapter. It also had a great plot and a dramatic ending. If I could rate this book I would give it a 4 out of five stars!
ReplyDeleteThis book is about a kid named Matt who gets in a lot of trouble for breaking into warehouse and being part of a killing. He was then forced with a decision that would change his life. He could either go to jail, or be part of the LEAF project. The LEAF project is designed for a kid to go stay with a designated person where you would work on a farm and have no contact with modern age technology. He should have chosen to go to jail.
Matt is then faced with a odd lady named Ms. Daverill as his guardian. She lives in a village in the middle of nowhere called Lesser Malling. Right from the start he knows something is suspicious about her and the community. During his stay at Lesser Malling he is faced with witchcraft, never ending roads, a deadly cat, weird rituals, and a nuclear power plant.
I strongly recommend reading Necropolis by Anthony Horowitz. It is a fantasy book full of action and suspense. Horowitz is a renown young adults author and wrote the Alex Rider series. This book is the fourth in the gatekeepers series. It is about how five teenagers, the gatekeepers, must unite to defeat the worst evil in the world; the Old Ones, who were released in an earlier book. Four of the gatekeepers (Matt, Pedro, Jamie and Scott) are together in Peru but the fifth, Scarlett, is in London, and only the five together can defeat the Old Ones. So, Matt, Jamie, and their adult friend Richard depart from Peru to London to get Scarlett. Scott and Pedro stay in Vilacamba, a safe city protected by their friends, the Incas. But, as Matt, Jamie, and Richard arrive in London, Scarlett leaves and travels to Hong Kong. Hong Kong turns out to be in total control of the Old Ones and evidently, so is Scarlett. Matt, Jamie, and Richard must extract Scarlett from the city without being captured by the Old Ones. Can they do it? Read the book to find out.
ReplyDeleteI am strongly recommending Looking for Alaska, a beautiful piece of Realistic Fiction by John Green, to all teenagers. Though the situations are not easy to realte to; the characters, their personalities, and their opinions are something everyone can relate to. Every character is extremely life-like. Especially since they all have such different, yet all dominant personalities. The protagonist, Miles "Pudge" Halter, is done with his boring life and goes off seeking a "Great Perhaps." He begins his search at Culver Creek Boarding School, where he meets four new and effective friends. Chip "The Colonel" Martin, the planner of all pranks, Takumi, an easygoing and trustworthy companion, and Lara, a shy, kind hearted, innocent foreign exchange student, are three of his closest friends that he meets there. With these varieties of personalities there must be something brining them together. That something is Alaska Young. Alaska is a mischievous, mysterious, moody, and wise teenage girl. Alaska captures Miles' heart, along with the heart of every reader. With all these characters there is never a dull moment; whether an adventure is taking place or not. Together they experience multiple milestones, that change their lives forever. Throughout the book they grow closer with every word spoken. With one another company they manage to plan many pranks and solve a mystery. Read the book to find out more!
ReplyDeleteAshley I have also enjoyed reading Code Orange by Caroline B. Cooney have you heard of any other novels by her?
ReplyDeleteHave you ever wondered where you go when you die? The book Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin will tell you.It is about a girl named Liz, who is 15 when she dies. She got hit by a cab and the next thing you know she awoke on a boat. On the boat she meet this girl named Thandi who becomes her best friend. ReplyDeleteI give this book 5 stars because even though we can't relate to the book, it is a fantastic fantasy adventure that you will feel like your in. I think that guys will not like this book because it is a romantic fantasy genre that boys wouldn't like at all.I hope you guys take my advice and reed Gabrielle Zevin's book called Elsewhere.
The House of the Scorpion, by Nancy Farmer is one of the most appealing novels that I have ever read. It is a science fiction novel that involves the near future. Concepts such as clones, automatic workers and hovercrafts are demonstrated within the plot of this novel.
ReplyDeleteThe story is centered on the life of the protagonist named Matt. Matt is a clone of a rich and powerful opium drug lord named El Patron who is over one hundred and forty years old. Matt grows up isolated from the outside world. Many people despise him because he is a clone. He also develops friendships as he tries to understand why he was created. As time goes on, Matt lives among the power-hungry family of El Patron and realizes there is danger. One day, El Patron has a heart attack and Matt knows he is in trouble. Escape is his only way out. However, Matt will find that escape does not only include running away from El Patron, but also from the dangers that are yet to come.
Overall, I would recommend this book to readers that are ready for suspense and who enjoy new science ideas. It would appeal most to adolescents from ages 13 to 15. People who enjoy realistic fiction would also find this novel entertaining.
Based on Ashley’s blog review, I would recommend this book to her. In her review, she explained how her book, Code Orange was “thrilling, and action packed”. In the House of the Scorpion, there are also very suspenseful scenes. In addition, Matt who is the protagonist in The House of the Scorpion is similar to Mitty who is the main character in Code Orange because both characters have something that separates them from society.
I would also recommend The House of the Scorpion to Donald D.P. In his review, he explained how he enjoyed his novel and he had “never read any book like this before”. The House of the Scorpion is a story that involves a plot that is very unique. Like Donald, I have never read a book with a style similar to my novel. Therefore, I think Donald would enjoy reading this book.
Unlike Ashley and Donald, I am not sure if I would recommend this novel to Jae H. In Jae’s review, she wrote how she enjoyed reading a book about every day girl teenagers. This plot greatly contrasts with the plot of my novel. I would therefore discourage her from reading the House of the Scorpion if she was seeking to read a book similar to the book she reviewed on the blog.
Schooled by Gordon Korman is an interesting novel about a boy named Capricorn Anderson who has been living on a hippie farm, Garland farm, his entire life. When an incident occurs his whole life is changed when he is put in the middle of current day society whereas hes been "stuck in the 60's" his entire life. He is put into 8th grade in Claverage Middle School. This school has the everyday popular kids, jocks and nerds. Every year the 8th grade class nominates the biggest nerd for class president and watches them make a fool of themselves the whole year. What will the 8th grade tradition make of capricorn? I recommend this book because it is entertaining while sending out a great message, respect others even if they're different from you. also the format is unique, each paragraph is a different characters point of view and opinion of the situation. I gave this book 3 out of 4 stars because at some points it could be a little boring.
ReplyDeleteAction, adventure, and suspense! You can find this and more in EVERLOST by Neal Suchterman. This exciting novel takes place in a world between the living and the dead, called Everlost.
ReplyDeleteThis book was a barrage of excitement that kept me reading from start to finish. Its intense use of suspense kept me on the edge of my seat and the plot was just plain astounding. I would give this book 4 out of 4 and would recommend it to every and any one.
The story starts with a car crash where the main characters, Nick and Allie don’t survive. On their way to “the light” they collide and end up in Everlost. While in Everlost they meet a boy named Lief and they begin an epic adventure filled with many twists and turns. They encounter other kids living in Everlost through a girl name Mary Hightower. Yet, there are dangers in this new world, a deadly monster called the McGill roams Everlost kidnapping children and a dangerous sorcerer called the Haunter who can interact with the living world . Will Allie, Nick and Lief survive these challenges while trying to discover the meaning of Everlost? Well there’s only one way to find out!
Have you already read the previous six books of the Harry Potter series? If so, I would recommend the final installment of this stunning series,"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" by J.K. Rowling. I am amazed at how J.K. Rowling was able to put all of the elements that make a work of literature great into this series. I give the book five out of five stars because every moment is full of action. Join Harry, Ron and Hermione on his adventure to find and destroy Voldemort's horcruxes, the mission entrusted to him by Albus Dumbledore shortly before his death. The book starts off with Harry being extracted from 4 Privet Drive. Many members of the Order of the Phoenix question why he, Ron and Hermione dropped out of Hogwarts. After they barely escape Death Eaters at Bill and Fleur's wedding, they go into hiding and their quest to find the horcruxes commences. Along the way, many astonishing secrets are revealed to the trio as they escape Voldemort and his Death Eaters. I would recommend this book to children, young adults and teenagers since it provides an interesting storyline. Discover what must be done to defeat Voldemort once and for all.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever day-dreamed of a far away place? One with castles, and knights, and war? If you have, there is a book just right for you. It is called The Icebound Land by John Flanagan. This is the 3rd book in a page-turning series Ranger's Appentice. Not just this book, but the whole series is and adventerous journey through danger, mystery, and consequences. I recommend this book to those day-dreamers out there, or a action or adventure loving person.
ReplyDeleteThe "Ranger's Apprentice" is a boy named Will who was specially trained to be a ranger. They are highly trained spies for the army. In this book, Will and his friend Cassandra, the princess of the Aurlen kingdom, are captured by Skandians during a great war. This book is about the adventure of Will and Cassandra to try and escape the grasp of the Skandians. Will they escape, or will they be held in slavery forever?
(I would highly recommend reading the other two books first)
I really enjoyed reading Just Listen by Sarah Dessen and would highly reacomend it, especialy for people who have read Speak. this book was amazinly written and tells about the life of Annabel Greene a model who , in her commercials, seems to be the girl with everything, but really shes the farthest thing from it. This book follows her as she goes through the struggles of daily life. Her life only starts to get better when she meets Owen who is music obsessed and determined to allways tell the truth. When shes forced to face all the secrets shes kept inside she comes close to breaking. But with the help of Owen and music she'll face her fears.
ReplyDeleteOver all i loved this book. The author has a way of writing that while being easy to read and comprehend is quite complicated and detailed. If i had to rate this book I would give it as many stars as allowed.
Point Blank by Anthony Horowitz is an exhilerating novel with an extremley well develped plot and interesting characters. The misleading plot is full of twists that are sometimes unbelievable and leave the reader wondering for days. Each of the characters has a highly in depth personality and apearance. their clasihng personalities make for many interesting confortations throuhout the book. The frequent use of sensory imagery and literary devices made me feel as if I were there with Alex.
ReplyDeletethe main character, Alex rider, is a fourteen year old school boy who is recruted to be a secret spy for one of England most elite intellegance agencies. he is forced to take on a new name and learn to lead a whole new life, so he can be sent to a special school. While at the school he discovers many secrets about this creepy school that lead to many other mysteries being opened icorperated into the story. This all leads to an unbelievable twist that will leave the reader stunned for das to come.
Point blank is the second book in the Alex Rrider Adventure series. i would recomened reading the first book in the series, Storm Breaker, first to give you a better idea of what is going on in the beggining of the story. i would strongly recomened this thrilling novel,as well as any of the others in this series, to anyone who enjoys spine-tingling adventures with interesting characters and unbelievvable twists.
Have you every felt like you didn't belong? Author Alex Flinn tells a bone-chilling tale about someone Who doesn't fit in in her realistic fiction novel "Breaking Point". Paul Richmond is a tall, thin, dark-haired, uncoordinated, formerly home-schooled 15 year old. He is a new student at the Gate Brickell Christian School, where the students are blonde, beautiful, and rich. Since his emotionally needy, and recently divorced mother is driving him crazy, and his distant father won't return his calls he needs to make friends. While at the school, he befriends a manipulative, and destructive student named Charlie Good. As their friendship develops the pranks and jokes they do become more dangerous and risky for Paul. How far will Paul go just to fit in?
ReplyDeleteI would recommend "Breaking Point" to anyone who enjoys a quick, and fun read that has a little bit of suspense, and tons of real life drama.
Chasing Lincoln's Killer is the best nonfiction thriller i have ever read.It portrays the hunt for John Wilkes Booth in a especially exilerating manor. It begins with Booth's plan and it works off of that into the rest of the book. You will learn an immense amount of information on the whole conspiracy. It's no secret that the author loves what he's writing about, it shows in the way he writes. You would never know that it's a nonfiction novel by the way he describes everything in vivid detail. I don't know about you but I cannot stand tedious nonfiction novels. I agree that most nonfiction books are monotonous but don't let that fool you on this one. It has a colossal amount of excitement and spine tingling moments. I had no idea how long it took the Union to find Booth and how elaborate his plan was. I gave it four stars and for me it was my favorite historical read. This book is exceptionally gripping and a unbelievable story.

ReplyDeleteFantasies are elsewhere as Elsewhere is a fantasy about the afterlife. I highly recommend the book Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin to teens who enjoy fictional books with imaginative themes. In this book, fifteen year old Liz Hall wakes up in a boat one day, thinking that she’s dreaming. She is sharing a room with Thandi, a girl who is about her age and has a wound in the back of her head that seems to have been caused by a bullet. After the two girls explore the ship, they realize that everyone else is much older except for thirty year old Curtis Jest who was formerly the lead singer of the band Machine, which is Liz’s favorite band. It is not until later, when Liz watches her funeral through binoculars on the ship that she realizes she is deceased and the boat’s destination is Elsewhere, the afterlife where Liz will have to live with her grandma Betty who died before Liz was born. When Liz learns that in Elsewhere everyone ages backward from the day they died, she is disappointed because she’ll never be sixteen, which means she can no longer look forward to the privileges of being older. When she ages backwards to become a baby on Elsewhere, they are sent back to Earth. Liz does everything she can to attempt going back to her old life so that she does not become younger.
Does Liz get her old life back? Does Liz make the best of her new life on Elsewhere? How does Liz adapt to her new life on Elsewhere? You’ll have to read the book to find out how her interesting new life turns out. With deeper thoughts, teenagers can learn some life lessons from the book. This book is mainly for kids in grades 7-9, both girls and boys. If you like fantasy books with a fascinating, creative, and humorous twist, you must pick up this book now!
I have never read the book, Turn Coat by Jim Butcher. This novel sounds very interesting and i plan to read this book in the future. i would read this because i like action pact and ecxiting books.
ReplyDeleteIf you like exciting, fast paced books that keep you gussing untill the end, then I would defintlly recromend Scat. This is a excellent book with lots of twist and turns in it's intriging plot. The story takes place near Naples, Florida in a Truman School where a mystery unravles around the disaperence of Bunny Starch, the most feared Bio teacher at Truman school, after a Field trip to Black Vine Swamp. When told she is out because of a family emergency two of her students, Nick and Marta, just don't buy it. After dealing with a crimanal, an eccentric Eco-venger, a wannabee Texas oilmanand a ticked off Florida Panther, they fiannly come to the end of this mystery.
ReplyDeleteThe book Change Upby John Feinstein is one of the best book ive read and i higly reccomnd it for people intrested in sports, mysterys, and/or action books this is you kind of book. This is a story of a man who was called up by the minor leagues and wound up pitching in the world series. It was the perfect Cinderealla story, a single father, Nobert Doyle, with 2 kids, Morra and david, that has been hoping around in the minor leagues gets to pitch in the world series and get a big win for his team. But after Steve and Susan Carol get suspicous of the story they find out that Nobert Doyle's past isnt whathe says to be andthey find out the truth. But along they way Steve gets chased by dogs, smcaked by agirl, and gets intoa fight with anthor guy, this storyalways gunna keep you guessing and wnating to read more, its a great book and I recommend it to all, Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI highly reccomend Dont Call Me Ishmael by Micheal Gerard Bauer. I give it three stars becuase the beggining was a little slow and he used too much detail describing Ishmael Leuser Syndrome and the hisory of how he got his name. But apart from that the book was excellent. And it appealed to a 8th grade plus age group with it having real problems that everyday people are going through like bullieing and more. Well Ishmael is a kid who uses his name as an excuse of why he is bullied. He has become adept at making himself invisible to escape the school bully Barry Bagsley. But that all changes when James Scobie comes to his school (who has no fear). He stops Barry and gets Ishmael on the debating team. and Ishmael builds his confidence to the point were he doesnt wanna hide any more. And he is no longer the kid hiding.
ReplyDeleteHey, it’s Brandon W., and I read the story, “Following Fake Man,” by Barbara Walter Holmes. I would strongly recommend this book to others because it was simply relating and exciting to teens of our age group. Its in the genre of Realistic Fiction and Mystery. This author writes extremely professionally, with a nail-biting plot in each of her books for young adults. “Following Fake Man” was just one of the several great novels she has written. In my book, Homer Winthrop, the protagonist unwillingly moves to Herring Cove, Maine with his emotionally depressed mother and his wonderful “nanny” Madeleine. He will later long for information on his father, more than he ever has. Homer’s father had died of a neurological disease… so he thought. On the second day of the trip, Homer has already adjusted to his room, unique house, and the baby turtles painted on his ceiling (who he strongly connects with throughout the book). When he is out exploring he encounters a red-headed, courageous kid name Roger, who will later become best friends. The two get themselves into a mystery about a Fake Man who is wearing a disguise- an old man costume. He constantly is carrying a box with an “X” painted on the front of it. They believe he is smuggling something to Herring Cove from one of the surrounding islands. When they find out where he lives, they find out more then they ever thought they would. They believe that the trusty old captain of one of the local ships is in on the smuggling, and is helping Fake Man. One day, when Roger and Homer are exploring the cabin they find a statue which has actually been sculptured- by Homer’s father! This is a major moment of connection between Homer, and his deceased father. That night he forms a plan- to follow fake man but yet at the same time find out about his father… he will luckily do both.
ReplyDeleteThis is only about half of the exciting and nail biting novel. Another main reason I would strongly recommend this to other readers my age is because of the life of the protagonist- Homer. In the book he goes through a lot of teen adversities we go through every day. It is also a very deep, and meaningful book with a new life-lesson every chapter and section! These are also some reasons I would give this book a 3 and 3 quarters rating (out of 4). I was actually very depressed when this book ended because that is just how much I loved reading it! Thank You for listening, and I hope you choose to enjoy the novel just as I did just as i did.
Drama, terror and vampires bring a chill down your spine and create anxiety to want to read more of the lives of teenage vampires in Keys to the Repository by Melissa De La Cruz. Like the stories that came before, it is of the fantasy and realistic fiction genre.
ReplyDeleteUnlike most books, this story is basically a recap of the other four books in the series (Blue Bloods, Masquerade, Revelations, and the Van Alen Legacy) told in a dry fashion by a librarian who works in the Blue Bloods repository. Files of families, family members, Silver Bloods and a history of Blue Bloods are scattered throughout the book in short stories to refresh the reader’s memories of the other four books. With stories about Lucifer, angels from heaven, and the ancient worlds of Egypt and Rome all brought up to the present, you get some additional information to fill in the gaps left by the other books.
If you desire a story with a refreshing, unique way to explore good versus evil in the dark world of vampires, Keys to the Repository will leave you thirsty like a Starbuck’s White Mocha craving, and you will look forward to the next installment of the Blue Bloods. I rate this book a four out of five stars.
Place: Indiana. Year: 1840- or so Jessie thinks... I read the novel, "Running Out of Time" by Margaret Peterson Haddix. All is well in the charming, yet secretive village of Clifton until diptheria hits. The deadly disease wipes out all the classrooms at school. Jessie's mother is called,"the midwife", but she is much more than that. The sick children call on her to find a cure instead of the doctors. To put an end to this epidemic, Jessie's mother reveals Clifton's deepest secret and sends Jessie off into to the world-the real world that is. Will jessie get to the dying children before she starts running out of time? I would highly reccomend this book to anyone who enjoys a thrill, a dash of history and that science-fiction twist. I believe that many people in our age group would enjoy reading this book because Jessie is 13 years old and many people can relate to her. Reading this book has been rewarding because its purpose is to not only entertain, but inform as well. Overall, I would give this book 4 out of 4 stars.
ReplyDeleteI read The Youngest Templar Orphan of Destiny. I gave this book four out of four stars becuase it had all the literary devices i liked. such as suspense action excitement and fighting! This book is a thrilling rollercoaster of good and evil and the end of the trilogy The Youngest Templar by Micheal P Spradlin who is renounced for his action packed young adult novels. And becuase of his way with words making you feel the main character Tristians emotions his pain and so on I gave this epic adventure to save the Holy Grail from the clutches of evil a four out of four becuase it is one of my favorite books
